Iphone unlock via Supersim method...snaps for INDIA

1) Iphone with firmware 1.0.1
2) Work PC -->WinXP
3) For first activation I used DVD Jon Method.
4) Next jailbreak and fakeactivate -->http://www.hacktheiphone.com/iphone_...r_windows.html, also you need to replace 'lockdownd' under /usr/libexec/ with http://cuimengsuo.com/wp-content/upl.../lockdownd.zip, to prevent further activation checks (backup the original lockdownd)
5) Ordered Dynamite Writer + 2 Silver cards, received it after 6 days(88$, no CUST)
6) Next thing I see is the serial interface of Dynamite Writer is not working.
7) Did everything I could do, from building my own serial cables to switching PC’s for serial Interface, but nothing worked.
8) Remembered that SIM reader was available in SP Road from my last SC writer hunt 3 weeks back, kicked my RX and went flying and got SIM reader(NextTech, 325/-), it provides virtual COM interface.
9) Ran worn scan and worked like chram with SIM Reader, had ‘ki’ of two sim’s within 30 minutes.
10) Next just followed “Tutorial" http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2215 that’s it, within 5 minutes I flashed the silvercard.
11) Next cut the card, insert into iPhone and make calls, sms
12) For EDGE, got to Settings->General->Network->Edge apn (airtelgprs.com), username(blank), password(blank)

I can lend my writer to ppl from Bangalore, or anyone who is flying down to Bangalore from anywhere in India

Just order silvercard (~10$) and get your iPhone working, may be few ppl can join and do a bulk order.

Till you get your cards you can get NextTech SIM reader and find 'ki', should be available @mobile electronics shops in your town. If you are from Bangalore I can give you directions.

This ipsw file is actually a zip file. Rename it .zip and unarchive. You will get two disk images, a system software dmg and a user dmg (from what I can tell). The system software dmg is password protected

The source code will be released in a few days to prevent commercial knock offs to appear all over the place again. If you have issues like unable to locate byte to patch, your phone was unlocked before, if you experince any other problems, be sure to have correct fw flashed, for skilled user try the guides with bbupdater on the forum to recover any error caused by bad previous attemps.

FAQ:
Q: Couldn't locate byte...
A: Your firmware is already patched or modified or at leas tnot apple default of the fls, try a restore with bbupdater

Q: My IMEI is now 0049
A: Whatever you did, you installed a retail FW over a already hacked one, thats bad, run a unlocker again.

Q: I get a unlock cmds failed error!
A: Try reboot the phone and check

Q: My sim isn't recognized!
A: Than go and activate proper :P

Q: I have sound issues
A: Your Provider sucks

Q: Can I brick my phone?
A: No any mistake you do is restore able with more or less work.

Q: My phone is frozen!
A: Usally not, it just takes a bit and the home button is disabled.

Q:Why patch the lockdownd?
A: It's not needed, do a proper activation instead!

I have recently came across a site saying that we can unlock the Iphone. So I almost searched for 2-3 hours and finally found a way to unlock the iphone using a super Sim method.

I wonder if this is legal to post a topic on this issue but anyhow this is purely for educational purpose only...

I have found that tutorial on the forums of Hackint0sh. There was an exclusive section of Iphone and all the topics in that section are extremely informative. I have enquired many people over there in that forum and found out that it Iphone works even i India and many other countries worldwide.

Lech Johansen (aka DVD Jon), who became world-famous after writing a DVD copying software, has published a hack to activate the iPhone without iTunes or the two year voice and data contract from AT&T.

Add "127.0.0.1 albert.apple.com" to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Download iPhone Activation Server to activate your iPhone for iPod+WiFi use.

Once you circumvent the iPhone activation process, the iPhone will work perfect as a touch screen iPod, email device, YouTube video player and will have Wi-Fi enabled internet access though you'll not be able to make or receive phone calls.

10 reasons to not to buy an Iphone

Hm mm....I do agree that Iphone got a huge selection of new and interesting features. But it still lacks some features that sound to be essential.

Although it got a 2 MP camera, there is no Video recording on Iphone. We cant even send video MMS either as there is no recording.
There is no Instant Messaging feature(IM).
It should not be called a complete Ipod replacement,you don't have any games.
There are no custom ring tones, You cant have ring tones of your own. This is one of the most lacking feature.
Not all Ipod accessories and headsets will fit for the iphone.
It is stuck to AT&T for a contract of 2 years.
There is no GPS.
It isn't a Smart phone, people should start developing applications for it.
It is not for business use ad there's no push email except for Yahoo Mail. There is Exchange support, but it's just using IMAP access.
The data connection being a bit slow.

I agree that Iphone is one of the sexiest phone on the market, but even it too lack some features that sounds important to some people.

It was amazing that apple have sold 700,000 Iphones in the 1st weekend.

Well, the first reviews are in. But you may have missed some of the more interesting factoids unearthed by the trio of gadget reporters deigned worthy by El Jobso to get a pre-launch iPhone. Here's a few fresh n' interesting iPhone facts right off the presses:

The mobile version of OS X or whatever it is the iPhone runs takes up 700MB of the device's capacity. Damn son!

There's no way to cut, copy, or paste text! WHOA! Big, big mistake.

No A2DP support. That, friends, is such a huge bummer right there.

Sorry, music can't be used as a ringtone -- even if it's just a raw MP3. No additional ringtones will be sold at launch.

On a PC the iPhone syncs with Outlook for calendars AND addresses! Noice.

It supports Exchange in some capacity, according to Walt, but he doesn't exactly say how.
